Presentations for Adults

Asperger Syndrome in the Classroom
Target Group: Any adults who deal with children in a classroom setting, including teachers, specialists, support staff, parent helpers, home schooling parents, and even the person at the front desk and those on playground duty.
Duration: 2-6 hours
Outline: It is estimated that 1 in every 80 children have Asperger Syndrome. Every teacher will have a child with Asperger’s in their classroom at some stage, whether the child is diagnosed, or not. My talk does not focus on what is Asperger Syndrome, (although, of course, I do explain it) but rather I present an insight to the mind of the child with Asperger’s, to show how they think and why they do the things they do. For many teachers, this is eye opening and will change the way they deal with children with Asperger's to the benefit of all concerned. Because so many children are co-morbid these days, the insights I give, and the techniques I suggest, are applicable across a whole range of diagnoses, from ADHD to anxiety disorders. In many cases they will help the neurotypical child too and assist with plain old classroom control.

Understanding Children with Asperger Syndrome
Target Group: Adults. This talk can be adapted for teachers or parents or any interested adults and can focus on either teenagers or children with Asperger’s.
Duration: 1-3 hours
Outline: With the current estimation that 1 in every 80 children have Asperger Syndrome, most people will cross paths with children with Asperger’s some time in their lives. Often they do not understand the child’s behaviours and at times these misunderstandings can cause conflict and confusion. Using pictures from my books “All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome” and “Inside Asperger’s Looking Out”, I present an insight to the mind of the child with Asperger’s, to show how they think and why they do the things they do. For many people, this is eye opening and will change the way they deal with children with Asperger's to the benefit of all concerned.
