Desert Leveret
Children’s Book
Crouch down low my precious, For the night has teeth and tongue.
With these words of wisdom, the mother hare begins her baby’s education. And with the unrelenting sun, shamaals, carnivores and humans to deal with, the little leveret has a lot to learn! Beautifully illustrated with soft watercolors, this touching story of survival will leave you amazed at how a little leveret can learn more about the desert in one day, than most humans learn in a lifetime.
Sorry, no longer in print.
Why I wrote it…
I grew up in Australia with kangaroos and cockatoos in my back garden. When I came to live in Dubai, I was fascinated by the local animals and the way they had adapted to live in the harsh desert climate. I have now ridden a camel, spotted a hoopoe and can tell the difference between a jird and a jerboa. I also know that, unlike the little leveret, I wouldn’t last a day out in the desert alone.
