WHEN THE SANDSTORM COMES
Children’s fiction
What would you do if you knew a sandstorm was coming? How would you prepare? How do you think animals survive? And most importantly, what wouldn’t you do?!
Why I Wrote It
I used to live in a desert, and I experienced sandstorms many times. They were fascinating, scary, awesome and annoying all at once. The sand got in everywhere, no matter that windows and doors were shut and everything was brought in from outside. When you looked out the window from your home, it was like looking into yellow fog and if you were in your car, the sand slithered like snakes across the road. I often worried about the poor animals outside, but I also knew that they had lived in the desert far longer than I had and they were well equipped to deal with such weather. I also learned what NOT to do in a sandstorm. Wearing lip gloss was definitely not a good idea. And neither was eating ice cream!
